If you’re reading this blog you’re probably seriously considering a career in copywriting. You may even be on the precipice of making the commitment to training. This is absolutely a smart choice. Copywriting is a fantastic career. It’s well-paid, creative, fun and flexible but in my opinion it’s not something that can be undertaken without training. After all, you can’t expect clients to pay you expert rates unless you actually are an expert in your field.

Now, there are a TON of copywriting courses out there. Which means it’s so important to do your research before rushing into a financial investment. You want to commit to a course that’s right for you and genuinely has the potential to change your career and life.
When I left my teaching job to pursue marketing I did exactly the opposite of what I just advised - I picked a copywriting course quickly without hearing from any actual students of that course. That course (which will remain unnamed) taught me some of the fundamentals of writing copy but included no business advice and no live training or support from the teachers running it. In all honesty, I never even finished it. It was so hard to motivate myself to continue without any support or access (other than emails) to the teachers or my peers. Plus, knowing that even when I did finish, I would have no idea how to get started from a business perspective (e.g. making my website and finding clients) left me down-hearted and feeling like I’d made the wrong choice of career. Maybe copywriting wasn’t for me.
Eventually I came across another course - namely Filthy Rich Writer. I spent months debating if I should do it, hesitantly signed up and can now safely say it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. Why? Because Filthy Rich Writer (also known as the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy) is one of the few courses that provides you with clear, straightforward steps and ongoing support to become an expert copywriter AND, importantly, an expert business owner.

The things I personally found most useful were:
Posting questions in the Facebook group and getting a load of support and answers back. What’s great about the course is that you have massively successful six figure copywriters on hand to give advice but also people who are on the exact same stage as the journey as you so you can all learn and celebrate together. It genuinely does feel like a community.

Is it worth the cost?
Yes. 100%. Without a doubt. And I don’t say that lightly as I was coming from a very low-income background when I purchased the course and had already paid for a different course which I didn’t find that useful. Therefore it was not an investment I could make lightly or throw a load of money at. Filthy Rich Writer is budget friendly and there’s an option to pay in instalments (which I did.) And a month after joining it essentially paid for itself when I landed a job which paid me three times the amount of the course!
I’m also not the only one I know who's done this. There are PLENTY of students who joined the course and replaced their income in a matter of months. Don’t get me wrong, it’s hard work. But it is possible.
In conclusion…
I wrote this review as I was so unsure about whether to join Filthy Rich Writer before I signed up. As I said it took me months even though I’d devoured all their podcast episodes (which are free and I’d highly recommend) and found them so valuable. I actually managed to create my website based on the free information from the podcasts alone there was so much useful content on there.
But I was still worried. Worried it wasn’t worth the money, worried I wouldn’t get the results I wanted, worried it wasn’t as good as it claimed to be, worried about the spammy sounding name - sorry Filthy Rich Writer team (!) and check out their blog post on why they chose that name if you're interested - worried as I was based in the UK and it was a US course. Which doesn’t make a jot of difference by the way, the course (and career itself) is suitable for anyone from anywhere in the world. The training is universal and the coaches are from a range of countries so if you are looking for specific advice you can always get your questions answered.
All I can say is, my fears were totally unfounded. Simply put, this course is the best I’ve ever taken and that’s including my undergrad and postgrad!
It has enabled me to have the career, life and financial freedom I’ve always wanted and (without sounding too sentimental I hope!) I truly believe it can do the same for anyone out there who wants it.
