What is copywriting, and how is it different from content writing?

Copywriting refers to compelling writing that persuades the reader to take a specific action. This specialized skill of writing is often used in advertising, marketing, and sales contexts. A copywriter’s main goal is to grab the reader’s attention, evoke emotions, and persuade them to take a desired action – such as joining a newsletter, making a purchase, or even watching a free training.

Content writing, on the other hand, aims to inform, entertain, or engage/inspire the reader. This type of writing is commonly found in blogs (like this one!) and social media posts. The primary objective of content writing is to provide information, solve problems, share insights, or entertain the reader, rather than directly selling a product or service.

How I found Filthy Rich Writer

As a brand new copywriting student, I spent my downtime binge-listening to podcasts about, you guessed it, copywriting!

Until I found one I connected with.

Nicki Krawczyk and Kate Sitarz, of a company called Filthy Rich Writer, host a podcast called the Build Your Copywriting Business podcast. This podcast answered many of my questions about copywriting. Even more, I connected with Nicki’s teaching style.

While the podcast offers a wealth of information, I was looking for something a little more … comprehensive. Lucky for me, Nicki does a fantastic job of promoting her signature course, the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy (or CCA), at the beginning of each podcast.
